1992年生まれ。兄の影響もあり、4歳からスイミングスクールに通い水泳を始める。
高校3年生のインターハイで優勝を果たし、大学4年の時に出場した日本選手権でも400m個人メドレーで優勝を果たす。
2016年に出場したリオデジャネイロオリンピックでは、400m個人メドレー予選で日本新記録を樹立し、決勝では8位入賞した。
2021年4月の選考会を最後に現役を引退。今後はトップ選手を育てる指導者を目指している。2022年春からは、日本体育大学水泳部競泳ブロック監督に就任すると同時に同大学大学院に進学。また、指導者として活動する傍ら、水泳の解説やコラムの執筆活動等も行い、日本の水泳界に貢献したいと考えている。

Born in 1992, Shimizu started swimming at the age of 4, influenced by her older brother.
She placed 1st in the inter-high school championship and the college national championships, both in her senior year in the 400m Individual Medley. In 2016 at the Rio Olympics she set a new national record in the heats of the 400m individual medley and finished 8th in the final. She retired from swimming after the Olympic Trials on April 2021.
In spring 2022, she began her studies for a master’s degree at the Nippon Sport Science University while also working as the head coach of their swimming team. Shimizu aspires to continue contributing to the Japanese swimming community, through participating in social activities and sharing her experience via commentary on swimming broadcasts and newspaper opinion columns.
